Rhetorical Analysis

Advertisement is a big part of our society now a days. Companies take desperate measures in order for their targeted audience to buy their product. People have very different mindsets when processing advertisement. These three mindsets would include pathos, ethos, and logos.
Pathos, is a method used to emotionally grab someone's attention. America is a very passionate country making this method very effective.
Ethos is a method using credibility. This could be the many years of proven success of a company. This could be the usage of a professional athlete. People think "Oh, this famous person has this, I need that exact same thing to be just like them."
Logos is a more numerically and logical method. This method effects those who look at statistics to make their decision. They think of things that are ideal to better their situation. For example, as a college student money is always a problem. So if someone says they have a job for $15, I am going to look into it. My logic says "I need the money", but the other logical thought says, "It's too good to be true."
All these methods have a effect on the public. They just separate the public into three mindsets. Hitting all three effectively is a key component for the success of a piece of advertisement.

Coca Cola is a very well known beverage company that has been established for many years. I would guess that they receive most of their income in the summer, due to the scorching hot days. People may want to kick back with a cold beverage after a grueling day outside. This is why they use "Refresh yourself with a delicious Coca", making this more a part of Pathos. Ethos is used by putting Original and Original Coke Flavor. This shows that it is a well established company and is known by the public. Then they have no Logos included in this ad.

This piece of advertisement is advertising the electronic building company, Samsung. They are trying to persuade people who have phones and want the greatest and latest technology. Pathos is used more than anything in this advertisement. As music dramatically effects this world, they take this certain approach. The phone doesn't just play music, it does much more. They just chose to narrow the musically influenced people. The only Ethos put is the Samsung logo. People see this and know that the company is very credible.

This is an advertisement for G. C. Murphy Company on one of their specials. The audience is those who love a lot of food, for a small amount of cash. They are trying sell a very specific set of food and drink products. As a newer generation, I couldn't tell you if G.C. Murphy Company is a well known restaurant. Therefore, the Ethos portion is not effective now, but in that time it may have been. I would say they targeted the logical audience in this ad. They put a price on a combination of items. They show a low price trying to make it the logical thing to go buy. The appropriate term is "More bang for you buck."

This is an advertisement for nutrisystem. America is becoming more obese and more lazy. This advertisement targets those who want to lose weight in a ridiculous fast manner. They seem to avoid the Pathos part, which would have been very helpful. They use Ethos, by showing a thin women. They show that she lost weight, why can't you. They also show that this company has helped other lose a large combined total weight. The Logos portion is a big factor in this. They use a number of total pounds people lost using their product. Another thing, is calculating the price of one meal. People think $3.00 is very cheap for a meal now a days. They use a effective method of throwing credible numbers in this ad. People will fall for this and instantly buy this.

The advertisement is for Michelin tires. The audience is for all people who own cars. Yes it fills the expectations by using pathos. They show something you care deeply about and they relate it to their product. In this case they are implying the safety of your own child. It makes me and other people think that this is the safest tire to use on a personal vehicle.
